8 Main Realisations To Overcome Chronic Pain

Introduction

Most people with chronic pain still feel it is something they will be stuck with for the rest of their lives.

I definitely used to believe that as well.

Overcoming chronic pain comes from the space existing between what we experience and the different ideas we connect to it.

And more often than not there is plenty of room for flexibility in that space. More than we typically imagine. And these tips are here to help you shed light in that space so you reach your long sought relief faster.

The more you open yourself to these ideas you will find more possibilities open up for you on how to overcome your pain.

1) All Pain is Always Real!

This is 100% the most important. Thing. Our experience is real. What we feel is real.

If someone tells you your diagnosis or your experience is not real they can &2$&#@!% (well you get it).

2) You Have The Ability To Affect Your Pain

Our bodies and mind have the amazing ability to adjust the sensations and signals that come into our awareness. For example we don't constantly feel our clothes on our skin even though they constantly touch us. Things come to our attention according to the importance we unconsciously assign to them. And the same happens with pain.

This typically happens automatically outside of our control but we can learn to affect it!

3) Pain Happens In The Brain

From a biological point of view the main reason we can achieve all that is because pain is created in the brain. And this is actually true for all our sensory experiences, even though we feel them on our body.

Much like touch signals travel through our nerves, up to our spine and get processed in our brains to create a sensation we feel on our bodies. Same with pain.

4) Pain Is A Signal With A Purpose

We typically tend to associate pain with an indication that something is wrong and we need to take care of it. Like avoid an activity or go see a specialist. And this is correct. So pain itself is not the problem.

Because truly pain is an unpleasant signal notifying us about perceived danger so we can take action and lead ourselves back to safety. And when we do that pain typically goes away.

5) Emotions & Thoughts affect Pain

Has it ever happened to you that when you are afraid or emotionally upset about something and injury hurts worst?

Together with signals coming from our physical body our thoughts and emotions are significant factors that affect our level of pain. Our emotional state can also signify danger or safety.

More than that as the brain calculates the level of pain we need to take action & avoid danger, it takes into account our thoughts about both the past and the future.

If similar situations have been harmful to us in the past, and the brain predicts we may find ourselves again there in the future, it will give us a stronger pain signal to warn us about it.

A common way this presents in our culture is by the conditioned association we have between pain and suffering. Once we realise the separation between pain & suffering then a significant part of the emotional load of pain can go away and pain reduces too.

Emotional healing is a big part of chronic conditions like autoimmune, ibs, chronic fatigue & fibromyalgia.

6) Pain vs Physical Issue

Yes emotions and thoughts affect pain but can there be pain without physical issue?

As we live through our lives a common association we create through our experiences as that pain and body injury are connected. And while in many cases this is true, it is not always.

There are many examples in literature where there can be damage to body structures and we don't feel pain (disk bulges, labrum tears, small arthritis are typical examples)

At the same time there can be pain without physical issue present. IBS & Fibromyalgia are common examples in this area.

7) Pain Relief: Short vs Long Term

While modern pain management treatments combine both medical and holistic methods the results in terms of pain relief typically are small and last only short term.

Whether it is acupuncture, psychology, mindfulness, pills or others one typically needs repeated applications of the method to keep having benefit.

However with modern mind-body techniques, based on how the human mind works, within a few visits someone can have long lasting pain relief that significantly reduces chronic pain or even turns it to 0. And this relief can even last for the rest of their lives.

And yes these methods still allow you to feel new pain in case your body needs to inform you about something new.

8) Relieving Chronic Pain & Health

Finally relieving chronic pain can have significant benefits for our health, both physical and mental

While relieving chronic pain doesn't magically fix a structural body issue (like arthritis for example), it can lead improved function of our body and improved health in the future.

For example, people can have additional benefits in better cardiovascular health by being able to move more, or by feeling less stress because of the pain.

People may need less medication because they don't need medication for pain anymore, or they need it in lower dosages. So then they don't experience the side effects of medication, which typically lead to new conditions and more medication.

And also there is less financial cost coming from all these ongoing health issues or new ones that may appear later, later in life. So yeah, there are big advantages in our health, in our physical health and financial ones by actually using modern techniques for relieving chronic pain that give long lasting results in a few sessions.

And together with the physical effects we should include the mental health effects too. The effect of being able to socialize more, feeling more included among friends and family, being able to interact with people, having better professional opportunities, being in a better mental state overall.

Thus avoiding the mental health issues, the need for extra medication, and the additional cost this brings and the health issues of the medication. And finally, the most important one, spend more quality time with people we love, people we appreciate and appreciate us and be able to do just that. Enjoy our time together.

Conclusions

So, all in all, truly resolving chronic pain with modern approaches that give long lasting benefit with just a few visits to a specialist can have a great benefit to us and allow us to enjoy more out of life. And the way to do that starts with these eight important realizations I just outlined.

These are the first thing I say to people in my sessions. So please I take some time to consider them, to reflect on them, see how they, feel for you. And if you at this point agree only with some of them, but don't resonate yet with others, this is normal.

See what these may bring if you hypothetically agreed to them and what they may bring if hypothetically you didn't. Just examine the possibilities.

Truly resolving chronic pain with modern approaches that give lasting benefit with a only a small amount of visits can have a great benefit to us and allow us to enjoy more out of life
